RS232 RS422 RS485 Device Server, it is Serial to LAN working Adapter(Converter). It has TCP/IP, Vcom (virtual COM port), UPD. It works with SCADA, HMI, and ….. With the Serial Device Server we just link to Ethernet, we do not need to change any hardware.
SCADA sends commands to RS-232 RS-422 RS-485 device server, it will be Point to Point.
Also SCADAs send commands to one Serial Device Server at same time, it will be need FIFO, fist in, first out. The one by one command, it is big things for IIoT, Because it would be link many host, which command needs to process first. With FIFO, it can easy to process one by one without any issue.

. SCADA, HMI can process with many Serial Device Server by each IP address or Port number. We can set up by IP address or port number. With networking, we can connect many Serial Device Server, and each serial device server has own IP address, SCADA can by search by IP address for set up, or also can set up with port number, too. It would be one Serial device server with 4 port RS232/422/485, That will be only one IP address, that we can set up with Port Number Port1, Port2, Port3, and Port4. Each port can work independent. By using IP address we can add up to 255 devices.
Vcom (virtual com port),
it is also one function for serial device server. But the function it would not be best way for IIoT, because Vcom, it needs always connect, That will be heavy with Ethernet bandwidth. .
Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT) or IoT, it needs to add many device into the Ethernet. And how the SCADA or host can easy to send data to one of device? Or get data back from one of device? As we know, we need to give the each device a name or IP Address or Port Number, …. That SCADA can give each device with own command. That is reason IIoT needs Serial Device Server for control system.
IIoT has other Serial Device with EtherCat interface. EtherCat can link with more devices.
Ethernet is from Beckhoff Company in Germany, It is also an open source for EtherCAT.
EtherCAT uses processing of the Fly technology for the transfer. It can connect with up to 65535 devices. It also a real time computing design. It looks good for IIoT big things.
In the marketing, now it only has few devices. the some items it EtherCAT to Serial RS232 RS422 RS485 Device Server. We think it will be big thing for IIoT.
