USB Power Delivery – USB-C PD 3.0 ( USB PD / USB-C)
The smart phone is one of necessary goods,
then quick power charge become a necessary. We want the short time change as we can. Therefore, the marketing has battery charge 1.2 ( BC 1.2 ), Quick charge 3.0 ( QC 3.0 ), Pump Express 3.0 ( PE 3.0 ), and Power Delivery 3.0 ( USB-C PD 3.0 ). All are supports with quick charge, all can save charging time.
The QC and PE spec are from the chipset design companies. But PD is from USB IF, that many IC designs can design function for USB PD, that will use more products No only for smart phones.
USB PD has been support with Laptop
Thunderbolt products, USB HUB, USB Docking Station, Monitor, and ….. We think, it will use in more items for coming few years.
The USB-C PD 3.0 spec
USB PD 1.0 – 5V / 12V / 20V
USB PD 2.0 – 5V / 9V / 15V / 20V
USB PD 3.0 – 5V / 9V / 15V / 20V
From USB-C PD 1.0 to 2.0, the 12V has been removing and add 9V and 15V.
The 12V is good for 3.5” Storage to use, but the marketing has been change. In the marketing does not have any 3.5” storage supports with USB-C PD spec. It has other reason is the USB-C PD host port only in Laptop. When the Laptop USB-C PD link with PD Storage, the power will go down, it has no way to change back into Laptop. IF the design is Laptop to Storage to Power In, that will be perfect for the storage with PD, but it has other issue “ cost “. The cost will be too high. The marketing will not accept.
Laptop has USB-C PD port,
how about Desktop, it has USB-C PD port? It does not have USB PD port from Desktop. All things Desktop does not need USB PD. But how can we link with USB PD devices? Or it will has USB-C PD PCI Express Card ?
